PTSA Board Positions

E-mail Print PDF

Believe it or not, we're already planning for next year.  With the changing of the school year comes the changing of your PTSA board.

Current standing rules allow for board members to serve in the same position for a maximum of two years.  This year, your treasurer has agreed to continue on in her position, as has one of your VPs enrichment.  Thank you Chantal and Lori! These ladies will be looking for your vote at the upcoming Member's Meeting on March 18th at 6:00 p.m. in the MPR.

The following positions are up for election:

President-elect:  This position is newly created last year.  It allows a prospective president to work closely with the current president to learn the ropes.  Ideally, this person would continue on into the President position for the following year.  During the "training" year, the President-elect would be responsible for updating the PTSA website (some basic computer literacy required) and helping with the duties of other officers.  Time commitment in addition to regular board duties would average 2-3 hours per week, with some weeks being as busy as 5-8 hours.

Co-V.P. Enrichment:  This position involves working alongside our continuing Enrichment VP to continue developing enrichment opportunities for our students.  Our two VPs this year have worked hard to streamline the process for registration.  Time commitment ebbs and flows as you set up the incoming enrichment sessions.  In addition to regular board commitments, weekly time commitment would average from 2-3 hours per week to upwards of 5-7 hours during busy times.

Secretary:  This classic board position requires knowledge of general rules of order for meetings as well as a good ear for taking minutes.  The secretary is also responsible for posting minutes on our website and ensuring board members receive minutes. The secretary may also be responsible for email communication to members throughout the year. Time commitment averages approximately 1 hour per week in addition to regular board duties.

V.P. Fundraising:   Responsible for overseeing our PTSA fund raising efforts, the VP Fundraising would organize both "couch potato" fund raising as well as dedicated campaigns such as our Walkathon or catalog sales etc. This role is vital to our operations, but is one that oversees the work of members on committees for each event.  Time commitment is 2-3 hours a week in addition to regular board duties.

Elections for these positions will take place on March 18th at 6:00 p.m.  The process is very simple and low pressure.  You'll be asked to introduce yourself and the nominating committee will recommend you for election to our members.  The election will be by show of hands unless we have two or more people competing for the same position.  Results will be announced immediately and duties will commence with a Board to Board meeting in late May.  Summer training takes place in late August and the board will be integral in the back to school activities at Meet the Teacher August 30th.

Bee Ready to Spell!

E-mail Print PDF

Get Ready for the CVES Spelling Bee!

Students will be coming home with permission slips for our annual Spelling Bee.  If your child would like to compete in the Bee, please fill out and return the permission slip back to school no later than Friday March 5th.  Please note that students that choose to participate during lunch time must bring a sack lunch.  Ordering hot lunch from school is not an option as it delays the start of the competition and students may not have a chance to finish before the end of lunch.

In an attempt to cut down on unnecessary copies, we're posting word lists online.  Words for the competition will be taken from these lists, although words from the next grade up may be used if the competition proves fierce!
