The PTSA supports and speaks on behalf of the children not only at school but in the community, the government and other organizations.
They help provide student recognition and teacher recognition. The PTSA board, members and volunteers assistant in new student open houses, kindergarten registration, teacher classroom funds, book fairs, school clinics and much more. PTSA also plays a big role in fundraisers. Many PTSAs raise money throughout the year for projects and improvements at the school.
So why join the PTSA? First is to benefit your child by joining, after all our children are our first priority.
But there are many other reasons to join PTSA. One of the biggest benefits is getting connected to teachers, staff, other parents and other students. It is the best way to learn what is going on at your school and quite often before the rest of the school does.
The PTSA also offers a variety of programs for students and parents. PTSA is a great place to meet other parents, network and share resources. Sometimes school can bring up a whole list of questions that sometimes the teachers can't get them all or maybe you don't feel comfortable asking the teacher. It is a great way to ask parents of other students about their experience and compare notes.
It is a great time to get to know the teachers, principal and support staff of your child's school. This is a good opportunity to see how you can help the teachers as well as the teachers learn more about how they can help you or your child.
Please know that membership is not limited to just parents or students. Anyone who cares about our neighborhood's school and our students is welcome to become a PTSA member, and it only costs a few dollars to join.
